Intern Funding Policies

Consortium sites provide funds for intern stipends, in-service training, supplies, etc. Contracts are arranged with participating agencies so that each agency contributes to the Consortium fund, which is administered through the Little Tennessee Valley Educational Cooperative.  Interns are considered term student employees and are not eligible for fringe benefits. Holidays are determined by the individual sites.  Insurance benefits are not available, however the Consortium can provide suggestions for a short term individual health insurance plan that has different levels of coverage and different deductible options to choose from.  The number of funded internships will depend upon monies available.  During the 2010-2011 internship year, there are four funded internships and the base salary for this year is $21,100.

Intern Benefits

There are several benefits associated with an internship with TIC, including dissertation and professional development release time. Although insurance benefits are not available, TIC can provide suggestions for a short-term individual health insurance plan that has different levels of coverage and different deductible options from which to choose.

Current and past interns have also received the following benefits:

  •  TIC or school system-provided laptop computers
  •  Secretarial services
  •  Partial reimbursement for mileage and other job related expenses
  •  University of Tennessee library borrowing privileges
  •  Admission to the Tennessee Association for Administrators in Special Education (TAASE)
  •  Diverse opportunities for professional development at several of the LTVEC sites
